Do you know how to transpose?

It’s easy, when the words fill your head,
but the sprawl isn’t as graceful when we transform it
into syllables, shapes, intonations, tongues, eyes.

I find it ironic that we are required to express ourselves linearly
when our thoughts and emotions are anything but.

Teach me how I can write something
that will feel the same way to you as it feels to me.
Teach me to write about what I know,
                             so that I may remember.

Let me remind ourselves of the movements
of our limbs and the creases we left on the bed,
the stroke of blood red paint
your toe brushed on the wooden headboard,

and the spaghetti sauce kiss I planted
on the corner of your mouth.
